IT workers are always on the lookout for what’s next – the next app, the next device, the next download that users will introduce to the organization’s IT infrastructure. What’s next represents potential new vulnerabilities or security risks that must be standardized and controlled. Last week, IT’s next challenge took the form of an operating system, as Apple released iOS 5.

It often seems to me that license compliance is an after-thought for many companies adopting workplace virtualization. While attending a Gartner asset management conference in London last month, my perception was confirmed. Many people I spoke with said the decision to pursue virtualization is driven by technical departments in the organization.

Less than two months after his resignation, Steve Jobs, the former CEO of Apple and a true legend among tech visionaries, lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. In his 56 years of existence, Jobs managed to transform the way people worked and played with technology, from computers and tablets to mobile devices and personal music players. Family, close friends, Apple enthusiasts and even PC fans around the world seem to have been affected in one way or another by the work, life and death of Steve Jobs. In the past couple days, the internet has been flooded with wonderful stories and tributes to Jobs and we’d like to offer our condolences and a brief glimpse into some of our favorite articles, inspired by Steve's life.
