As you drive your car, drink a beer, place a call, or buy clothes, luggage, champagne, makeup or perfume, chances are one of Europe’s top brands is making it possible. Just recently, the European Brand Institute released its Eurobrand2011 study, examining more than 3,000 brand corporations in 24 countries and 16 industries, with comparisons to America and Asia.

This week: SMB IT budget increases, increasing popularity of iPhones/iPads this holiday season and surveys galore

As the year is slowly drawing to a close, it seems to be the season of published surveys and reports,  predictions for 2012, and lists of all kinds. I’m not just talking about holiday wish lists, but even our own “Virtual Patrick” Sauerwein has created his “Top 10 Virtualization Thought Leaders” list in a recent blog post. Check out the first installment of the list here: http://blog.matrix42.com/content/top-10-virtualization-thought-leaders-part-one. This week’s news round-up will take a look at a couple different surveys that pertain to IT and the “D” in “BYOD.”

Citrix Synergy last month was a great place for me to mingle with some of the brightest minds in virtualization. I posted my recap of the event last week, but I felt the inspiration, based on my trip to Barcelona, to put together a list of my top 10 thought leaders in virtualization. In an effort to be impartial, I’ve kept this list free of Matrix42 employees (though we certainly have our share of great thinkers and influencers). This week: BYOD/T, Gen Y job seekers and the freedom to choose an “aaS”

Whether you prefer the acronym BYOD or BYOT, the reality of this phenomenon is that it’s not going away. This week, as in weeks past, we’ll highlight a few articles on this trend that caught our attention and throw in a couple others along the way. But first, if you happened to attend the Citrix Synergy conference in Barcelona last week, we’d love to hear about your experience – our own Patrick “Virtual Patrick” Sauerwein recently wrote a post recapping his, which you can check out here: http://blog.matrix42.com/content/citrix-synergy-recap-virtual-patrick

Last week I attended the Citrix Synergy conference in Barcelona, and I thought I’d provide a recap of my observations. Apart from the lovely surroundings Spain has to offer, the Synergy events are always worth attending, as the latest in virtualization and cloud strategies, products, and best practices are discussed with forward-thinking industry leaders. Here are a few items that caught my eye:

License Management Complications in the BYOD Era

My colleague Torsten Boch wrote a great post recently about how companies can ensure license compliance when adopting workplace virtualization. Naturally, my mind started immediately racing to how the issue of compliance is complicated by mobile devices (I’m the MDM guy, after all).
