Matrician Interview with Jonne – Senior Product Manager

We spoke to Jonne Kauko, our Senior Product Manager within Service Management about his life at Matrix42. He gave us insights into his day-to-day as well as career development.

Jonne, what do you enjoy most about working at Matrix42?

I like my role, tasks, team, products we develop and build, and company culture. The work I do is truly interesting, and there are so many interesting tasks and projects that I have not seen a “boring” day during the 8 years I have been here thus far.

How would you describe our culture in three words?

The culture is open, friendly, focused on making things happen.

How do Matricians live up to the company values in everyday work?
Our Values: We Love Customers, Better Every Day, With Respect, Make it Happen!

People in various roles are doing their best and making things happen.
Interactions between people also demonstrate trust and respect.

Let’s talk about your professional growth at Matrix42, how has your career developed since joining?

I’m extremely happy with how my career has developed. I began as a Junior Solution Consultant in early 2017 while still studying. Over the following years, I advanced into more senior roles within solution consultancy. Later, I was offered a position in product management and became the Product Owner for our service management tool. After some time in that role, I took on additional responsibilities and eventually progressed to Senior Product Manager and Product Lead (team lead).

What learning and growth opportunities have you had here?

Almost every day presents an opportunity to learn and grow. My time as a Solution Consultant, working closely with customers, helped me develop a deep understanding of real-world challenges and built the foundation for my current role in product management. I’m continuously expanding my knowledge and staying up to date with the latest trends in service management and the technologies driving innovation. In addition, leading a team has brought valuable learning experiences in people management—such as mentoring, coaching, and fostering collaboration—which are just as important as technical or product-related skills.

The company has also supported my studies in industrial engineering, management, and economics. For example, back in the day, I wrote my bachelor’s thesis for the company.

How does Matrix42 support you regarding professional development?

For example through high-quality training. Just a few weeks ago, we had a 4-day product management training, which was extremely useful.

Let’s talk about collaboration, what do you love about your team?

Their attitude, skills, commitment, and professionalism.

How does teamwork play a role in your day-to-day work?

Teamwork plays a key role – most of the ongoing initiatives and projects are team efforts.

How would you describe the leadership style here?

The leadership style is friendly and engaging.

Regarding Work-Life Balance, how are you being supported here at Matrix42?

I have had the possibility of having long vacations. Also, the company supports past-time activities (e.g., we regularly play beach volley with our colleagues).

What benefits or perks do you appreciate the most?

The well-equipped, stylishly decorated, and comfortable office in Espoo is great. The snacks and soft drinks are also great.

How does Matrix42 accommodate flexible working needs?

Overall, it’s very flexible, and the level of trust is high.

How does your work contribute to the our mission of building the European Choice in service management?

There is a clear linkage—my product development plans are directly linked to the company strategy, which in turn is linked to the company’s mission.

How does Matrix42 encourage innovation and new ideas?

We are encouraged to build new, innovative products, which is what we do!
